Valentine’s Day Frame

This is so easy to do, I think a child could do it with supervision.
You will need:
unfinished wooden frame
acrylic paint -I used copper
glitter -I used rose gold
white glue
ribbon -at least as wide as the frame
4 wooden hearts
paint brushes
Mod Podge

Sprinkle glitter into the paint and mix it well.  I just guessed at how much since I had never tried this before and wasn’t sure what my end result would be.  I just hoped it would be glittery but not too crazy glittery.  I let the first coat dry and decided it needed a second.  I put glitter in the second coat as well.  I liked the results so two coats seemed just right.  Depending on your color, you might need a third.  Be sure to paint the edges both on the outside and the inside as those will show.  You don’t have to paint the back altho you can if you want to.

After it dried I put 2 coats of Mod Podge over the painted frame.  Be sure to put it on all the painted surfaces. Let it dry after the first coat.  After you paint on the second coat, while it’s still wet, lay the ribbon across the top and the bottom.  I had this beautiful heart ribbon that I bought at the craft store for no particular reason other than I loved it (and my husband said, “You should buy that.”), but any wide ribbon would work.  You should cut it a little longer than the width of the frame and don’t worry if it’s hanging off on the top and the bottom.  You will trim that AFTER IT DRIES.   It’s easier (and looks better) if you line it up along the inside, because that would be more difficult to trim. Let it dry to touch (that is so that you can handle it with nothing moving and so that it doesn’t stick to you at all.

When it’s suitably dry, take some nice sharp scissors and trim any excess ribbon along the top, the bottom, and the sides.  If you use nice sharp scissors it won’t be too hard.

Then, glue your hearts on the corners using plain white glue and let it dry until they are not going anywhere.  I let mine sit overnight and it was ready to wrap and pack by then.  It came out really cute.

Now, I didn’t think about making it go either long or lengthwise until I already was nearly done.  If you had a ribbon without the cut out hearts you could arrange your hearts in the side in a different way, and you could even put ribbon all the way around all 4 sides. Obviously there are a number of different choices.

If you click on the picture of the frame you can see it in better detail and maybe see the glitter. It was hard to get a good shot, but it does shimmer in the light.  I think the recipient will like it.
